223k miles. Puff of blue smoke on startup every so often; probably a valve guide or seal. Needs half a quart of oil now and again. New KYB struts, brakes, timing belt. MTD (Manual Transmission Dammit). Keeps its water. Fun to drive on a windy road. #goldenageoftoyota

Aww, makes me miss my old Mk2 winter beater.. I collected a bunch of parts from my other vw friends, lowering springs, mk3 suspension, exhaust, short shift kit, GTI flares, filter, even put a cam and cam gear in it.
I was into it for about $2K and I drove it hard.. It was so fun. Ended up running out of driveway space and selling it off at a profit.

That car is relevant to my interests. I just lost my Mk4 Golf to a drunk driver. I’d love to have a 5-speed beater to take its place.

You might be right. The early '90s Toyotas were wonderfully reliable and easy to drive. I have a soft spot for Corollas of that era.

I read "windy road" as windy (as in wind blowing) road. Then I realized that both words are spelled the same. Then I realized that I'm just realizing this. Then I realized that I'm an idiot.

Such a great car indeed. I bought one of these a year or so ago as a beater, and I’m pretty happy with it. Mine came with spare headlamps and tail lamps, front bumper, trunk lid, interior parts..., etc. 300k kms by the way.

My mother bought a blue one new when I was born. Solid it when I was two, to buy a Volvo. It’s still on the road today.

I also have an ‘89 Camry. Other best car ever.

Next time, I’ll write “winding” road.
